This falls under the very basic concept and practice of measure twice, cut once. I literally can not afford to make such costly mistakes when following through with good process would have prevented it!
In an effort to see the silver lining here, I did learn a few things:
- Check your seals. It doesn’t need to be pretty, but it does need to be built well. Take your time and do it right. Being OCD, you wouldn’t think this would be an issue for me. In an effort to better myself, and not obsess, sometimes I can be a little too hasty. Find a happy medium.
- Optimize the mold. Even though most of it is now on the floor, I had to use far more silicone than I had estimated. There is no reason for this to be a square. This mold should have been a Hex. Do a better job of matching the mold to the sculpture.
Hopefully I will be able to salvage the sculpture, get it all cleaned up, and start over with the mold.
And now, I present to you my mess
